Inland Empire building-trades delegate asks council for presentation on community workforce agreements

At the June 12 meeting, John Sisley, an elected delegate to the Inland Empire Building Trades, asked the Palm Desert City Council to schedule a future 20-minute presentation explaining community workforce agreements (CWAs). Sisley said CWAs can hire local community members, place them into union apprenticeship programs and staff city construction projects with local tradespersons.
Sisley identified his affiliation with the union representing plumbers, pipefitters and refrigeration workers in San Bernardino and Riverside counties and requested a future agenda slot for himself and the Inland Empire Building Trades president to present to the council. City staff treated the request as a non-agendized public comment and said they would take it under consideration for a future meeting.
