Orangeville meeting approves Hoffman and Sons LLC business license for fishing guide

A local Orangeville meeting approved a business license for Brandon Hoffman to operate Hoffman and Sons LLC as a fishing guide and outfitter.

The license was approved after a motion, a second and a voice vote; meeting minutes record members answering “Aye” and no opposed votes were recorded. The vote was a voice approval and no roll-call tally was given.

Hoffman told the board he applied for the business license to be able to work as a guide and to pursue a separate state outfitter/guide license and special-use permit for National Forest and other public lands. “I applied for a business license to, be a a fishing guide … I’m trying to be legal,” Hoffman said during public comment. He said the business license will also allow him to sell bait and related supplies.

Meeting participants noted a July start date for guiding because of a recent change in Utah rules that now require each guide to hold an individual outfitter/guide license. A board member said that, typically, a municipal business license is an early step and that state permits and any landowner permissions are separate requirements.

Hoffman said the business license application was filed after the previous meeting and he planned to pick up the approved paperwork at the municipal office the next day.

The board did not specify any conditions in the motion recorded on the minutes; the action removes a local impediment to Hoffman pursuing the state outfitter license and associated federal or state permits.

Members recorded no further formal directions to staff about follow-up steps in the meeting transcript.
