Interim county administrator Mike Markran updated the Sawyer County administration committee on several ongoing projects, saying the county has completed its ARPA-funded broadband projects, made progress on airport work and is pursuing housing and Gencom financing matters.
Markran said the broadband projects funded by ARPA "are all completed and paid out," marking the conclusion of roughly three years of work. He told the committee the ARPA funds "have been depleted, committed, and paid out."
On the airport project he said operations would be limited to "prior approval plates" during certain days but that the runway work had finished ahead of schedule; painting and grooving remain and are planned for late July to complete the project.
Markran also reported the county passed financing for the Gencom project at the finance committee and that item will go to the full board. He spoke about a trip with a committee member to Washburn to review a 40-unit workforce senior-living housing project and said the visit was useful for seeing different development processes and connecting with other administrators.
Markran said the county budget process would officially kick off with instructions to department heads and that he is working on onboarding improvements and department-head meeting structure to add professional-development elements.
