Summary
The Alva Airport Commission tabled a request from Little Red Hints for a $2,000 monster-truck appearance at a Sept. 6 event and discussed preferring aviation-related sponsorship such as Young Eagles flights or promotion at the airport.
The Alva Airport Commission voted to table a donation request from Little Red Hints seeking sponsorship for a Woodward Extreme Monster Trucks appearance at a community event on Sept. 6.
Lindsey Johnston, identified in the meeting as president of Little Red Hints, asked the commission to sponsor a $2,000 appearance fee for the monster-truck act and said last year’s standalone event drew about 1,500 people. Johnston said she hoped the airport could help by hosting aircraft on display and by coordinating outreach to pilots and teachers.
Commission members said airport funds are generally intended to promote aviation and suggested that any airport donation be tied to aviation-related activities such as an EAA Young Eagles event or display of aircraft. The airport manager and commissioners discussed permitting a donation box or QR-code donations at the airport and promoting the fundraiser at the field if the event is aviation-linked. Commissioners proposed tabling the request while staff and the organizer explore aviation-oriented options and potential Young Eagles participation.
A roll call recorded for the motion to table: Kinsey — yes; Weidner — yes; Lawson — yes (Parker called the roll). No dollar amount was approved by the commission at the meeting.
Johnston said she has solicited other donors (last-year donors listed in the meeting included a $1,000 donation from “7 star,” a contribution from Kay and Kayvon recorded in the minutes as approximately $3.50, and other support from Denny Plumbing) and that she would pursue EAA/Young Eagles and other aviation partners. The commission encouraged Johnston to bring more detailed proposals tying any commission support to aviation promotion at a future meeting.
