The Transportation Commission adopted its July 1, 2025 to June 30, 2026 work plan and asked staff to add an annual check‑in on the city’s compliance with the Public Right‑of‑Way Accessibility Guidelines (PROWAG).
Chair Anne and commissioners said recent discussions showed a desire for more frequent updates on PROWAG implementation than the existing three‑year ADA transition plan review cycle. The adopted change directs staff to include at least annual reporting on PROWAG compliance and how proposed projects and reconstructions advance or affect compliance. The work plan also includes standard items such as monitoring capital projects, transit updates and ensuring distribution of agenda materials to commissioners in a timely way.
Why it matters: PROWAG sets expectations for pedestrian facilities in the public right‑of‑way and can affect curb ramp design, crossing placement and reconstruction priorities. Commissioners said annual reporting will help the commission track how reconstruction and redevelopment projects are aligning with federal access guidelines and where system‑level gaps remain.
Action taken: Commissioner Bill Bremer moved and Commissioner Denise Jess seconded approval of the revised work plan; the commission approved the plan by unanimous consent. Staff agreed to return with a workable annual reporting format showing progress on PROWAG compliance and highlighting projects that create or eliminate gaps in accessible routes.
