Madison County supervisors approve tax-exemption increase, housing and broadband measures and multiple committee resolutions

Madison County supervisors adopted a series of committee resolutions covering senior tax relief, housing programs, county contracts and broadband on motions taken during their regular meeting.

The board approved an increase in the income eligibility for the county’s property-tax exemption for qualified senior citizens. County finance staff told supervisors the revised exemption will apply beginning with next year’s tax rolls and that affected taxpayers should expect to see any financial benefits when bills are issued in 2027. The public hearing on the change was opened and closed with no members of the public speaking.

Supervisors also approved multiple grouped resolutions advanced by standing committees: Government Operations (resolutions 2–6), Ways and Means/Finance (7–21), Health and Human Services (22–24), Planning (25–27), Criminal Justice (28–31) and Highway/Facilities (32–35). The Government Operations package included the six-year reappointment of Karen Richmond as director of real property and the reclassification of a part-time recording clerk in the county clerk’s office into a full-time motor-vehicle representative to address DMV workload.

Health and Human Services approved continuing housing-related work, including an extension of the county’s tiny-homes program and the appointment of a resident from Chittenango to the Madison County…
