Probation office reports audit activity and rising employment among probationers

Tyrone, speaking for the county probation office, told the Public Safety Committee that the state comptroller's office is auditing OPCA and DCGS for the probation program and that the audit triggered surveys distributed to probation directors and will likely lead to on-site visits.
Tyrone said the department is reviewing roughly 700 cases to ensure compliance and reported that only minimal corrective plans were needed so far. He told the committee that the probation office has partnered with the CAP office on a grant-funded employment program for moderate- and high-risk probationers; that partnership, which began last year, raised the employment rate among employable probationers from about 55% to about 70%.
Tyrone said the department also expanded services to include some low-risk probationers and vocational offerings such as GED preparation and CDL training. He said graduation is scheduled for the 13th and that new probation officers have been assigned cases and will continue onboarding.
