Cayuga County 911 schedules July training class, hires supervisors to fill vacancies

Ben Guzelak, speaking for Cayuga County 911, told the Public Safety Committee that new hires are finishing background checks and the agency will begin a training class on July 7 after a hoped-for June start date slipped.
Guzelak said he attended a CAD (computer-aided dispatch) conference in Grapevine, Texas, with a county supervisor and a sheriff's records staffer, which he said clarified upcoming CAD changes and underscored the importance of hands-on training. He said the trip helped the department plan for future CAD updates.
Guzelak said two resolutions before the committee asked to fill vacant supervisor positions; he described the moves as necessary to maintain liability coverage, mentoring and floor supervision. The committee bundled JP1 and JP2 and approved them in a single motion (see “Votes at a glance” for the committee action).
Guzelak said the department identified three strong candidates; one hire was approved in the prior month and three will start on Aug. 1. Denise provided a written report to the committee, Guzelak said.
Ending: The committee approved the immediate personnel resolutions; the 911 office will begin training on July 7 and expects the new supervisors to start in August.
