The council received a resignation letter from Finance Director David Burlingame, who set his final day as July 11. Council members thanked Burlingame for his service and for stabilizing the office during a period of transition.
Town Manager Sullivan reported the interview committee’s recommendation and introduced Gary Marshall, a candidate with 17 years of municipal experience in Bristol, including deputy treasurer duties and a recent role as business manager for a municipal police department. The council voted to ratify the manager’s hiring of Marshall as the new finance director; the appointment is effective immediately upon completion of administrative steps.
Gary Marshall said he is familiar with municipal financial software and expects to assist with the town’s upcoming financial system changes. Councilors asked Marshall to work closely with incumbents to ensure an orderly transition; Burlingame agreed to remain through July 11 to support onboarding.
The council approved the hire by voice vote and welcomed the incoming finance director.
