The Shelton Planning and Zoning Commission voted 6-0 on June 11 to approve an application for a 900-square-foot accessory dwelling unit at 40 Skyline Drive, permitting the applicant to build a linked in-law apartment behind an expanded garage.
Applicant Manny Silva told the commission the single-story ranch house (built in 1961 with work in 1982) will keep its primary residence while adding a roughly 900-square-foot accessory unit at the rear, connected by a sunroom and deck. The project also includes adding a one-car garage to an existing two-car garage (creating three garage spaces in total), replacing a small shed (to be relocated on-site), installing erosion-control measures and adding a small covered porch across the front.
Silva said the property's existing septic system was installed in 1982 and has been maintained; he stated he does not intend to upgrade the septic now. The site plan includes silt-fence erosion controls, stormwater galleries, and a proposed pool area in the rear yard.
Commissioners asked no questions during the presentation. Commissioner Parkins moved to approve the certificate of zoning compliance application; Commissioner Motto seconded. A roll call recorded unanimous approval (Cristiano, Motto, Ticky, Kelly, Parkins, Harger). The commission wished the applicant luck.
