Shelton hires outside wetland and soil experts; work at Wells Hollow Brook on hold pending permits

The Shelton Planning and Zoning Commission on June 11 heard an update on debris removal, soil stabilization and erosion control at the Wells Hollow Brook site; commissioners were told work remains on hold until outside and state approvals are complete.
Commission Chair Virginia Harger told the commission the city has engaged an outside consultant to review proposed remediation work and confirm that activities proposed by the applicant will be done properly. Harger said the consultant is a certified professional wetland scientist, soil scientist, registered landscape architect and a certified organic land care professional who has studied soil science and environmental management and was hired at the applicant's expense.
The chair said the consultant participated in a site walk with city staff, the applicant and the applicant's consultants. She said the consultant and the applicant's soil scientists will submit a list of required activities to the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection for review and approval.
Harger also told the commission any activity at the site is at a standstill until the Connecticut Department of Transportation issues a highway encroachment permit.
Commission staff and the city'hired consultant will continue to review the applicant's remediation plan and coordinate required state reviews before work resumes.
