East Meadow Board honors retirees and thanks departing trustees Jody Luce and Matthew Melnick

The East Meadow Board of Education on June 11 recognized a group of retirees and formally thanked two trustees who are leaving the board.
During a retirement recognition segment, Anthony Russo, the district's superintendent for personnel, told the group: "Collectively, you represent over 400 years of service to the district." The board presented plaques to attending retirees and read the names of those honored.
The recognition included individual plaques for trustees Dr. Jody Luce and Matthew Melnick. In the plaque text read at the meeting, Dr. Luce was listed as a board member serving "2019 to 02/2025" and Melnick as serving "2016 to 2025." The board member presenting the plaques congratulated both trustees and asked the audience to applaud.
Board members and community leaders offered remarks thanking the retirees and the outgoing trustees. Tracy Rudd, PTA Council president, said in public remarks, "Jody, you have always brought a keen insight to the needs of our children." Several board members also spoke directly to Dr. Luce and Melnick, expressing appreciation for their service.
The board read aloud the names of retirees invited forward to receive plaques; those named included Paige Bernhardt, Therese Blakeney, Rhonda Cohen, Lori Devico, Lana Del Greco, Luisa Grammarosa, Francine McGridi, Andrea McCutchen, Christina O'Donnell, Joanne Naccarato, Richard Howard, Linda Poole, Paul Ring, Randy Reuben Francis, Bogdan Shofransky and Grace Vlassy. The board wished them well "in retirement," according to the meeting record.
The recognition took place as part of the board's regular meeting agenda, which included routine votes and consent items later in the evening.
