Georgetown ISD previews four projects for unspent 2021 bond savings; approval expected next week

At a June 9 Georgetown ISD Board workshop district staff and bond-advisory members previewed four projects recommended for funding with unspent 2021 bond savings. The board received information but took no action; staff said they anticipate bringing the items to the board for formal approval the following week.
The four projects the bond-advisory committee reviewed are:
- Tippett Middle School track upgrades: Tippett is the remaining middle school in the district without a full set of track facilities and has a scoreboard and pit area in need of repair. Staff said students currently are bused to Eastview for some events or training.
- A CTE agricultural truck: The district’s growing agricultural program requires a dependable district vehicle to haul animals and equipment to shows and veterinary appointments; staff said parents and trailers are currently being used and a district vehicle would be safer and more reliable.
- Specialized furniture for a behavioral ILC at Georgetown High School: Special-education staff requested furniture designed for students with behavioral and cognitive disabilities — durable, soft and less likely to cause injury or be moved in ways that disrupt instructional flow.
- Indoor hitting facilities for softball at Eastview High School (new campus): Staff said the new high school’s plans include indoor instructional hitting facilities; the proposed project would add similar instructional hitting space for softball so students would have daily access for hitting and related instruction.
Presenters said the requests were vetted and ranked by the internal review process and the bond advisory committee. Trustees asked about the remaining balance of bond savings; staff said there are still additional funds available (noting figures will be finalized), and that using bond savings can be less costly than issuing new debt because of current borrowing rates and potential cost escalation of future projects. No vote was taken on June 9.
