County approves change order for tactical training center, ADA door repair and receives construction updates

The change order covered items identified late in construction and some deducts where the contractor reworked work to reduce costs; the combined net change was $17,247. Accounting and sheriff's staff discussed funding sources; the board approved charging the cost to the generator project account or to identified sheriff funds and directed staff to monitor invoicing closely because some generator funds are not yet expended and delivery is pending.
Crystal also presented a proposal to replace a repeatedly failing ADA door operator at the Sixth Street entrance. After facilities and the architect reviewed the failures, staff recommended a higher-quality operator with adjustable settings. Precision Glass quoted $5,100; commissioners approved paying for the repair from the maintenance budget.
Procurement staff provided updates on other projects: the YDC event center is progressing (electrical, plumbing, HVAC rough-ins completed; roof nearly complete; interior door frames and exterior window frames installed) with a projected finish later in the year. Staff said they plan to solicit refined cost estimates for a road-and-bridge roof project and to start a lessons-learned document for large construction projects to capture process improvements, with a proposed joint meeting across departments in July to review consolidated lessons.
Commissioners approved change order No. 3 and the ADA operator replacement and asked staff to report back on final invoicing and any ARPA or other funding impacts.
