AUS expansion projects progressing: West infill, yellow garage and atrium infill hit construction milestones

Lynn Estabrook, chief of development for the airport, walked commissioners through the Journey with AUS expansion-map overview and project milestones at the June 11 meeting.
Estabrook said the packet map shows projects in construction (purple), in design (yellow-orange), and one project still in an envisioning phase. She noted the integrated hold-baggage system remains under procurement and is expected to return to the commission next month with a design–build request for council action.
On the West infill, Estabrook said the building envelope is sealed, windows are installed and waterproofing is complete; interior finishes and flooring are underway as the project progresses toward a planned first-quarter 2026 opening. She said new baggage-screening machines have arrived and are being installed with TSA and the contractor to reach a 4,000-bags-per-hour screening capacity.
Estabrook said the yellow garage construction is advancing quickly with three tower cranes now erected and that the project will add parking capacity for customers. She also described the atrium infill work above baggage claim and said the Barbara Jordan statue in baggage claim has been wrapped and protected by an artist and archivist; the project team coordinated the preservation work with the family and the public information office has produced timeline and history graphics for the construction wall.
Estabrook said an international arrivals improvements project moved to the active construction category and that a public-information release would be issued about those changes.
Commissioners asked about DBE/tracking goals for projects; staff said solicitation documents and the packet (page 41) list project-level DBE goals and that staff can provide more regular status updates on goals if the commission wants them included.
The briefing was informational; staff will return to the commission with procurements as they proceed.
