Guadalupe County proclaims June 2025 as Elder Abuse Awareness Month

The Guadalupe County Commissioners Court unanimously approved a proclamation designating June 2025 as Elder Abuse Awareness Month at its June 10 regular session.
Representatives from Texas Adult Protective Services briefed the court on local statistics and partnerships. APS staff told the court that Guadalupe County has about 41,500 residents who are 65 or older or adults with disabilities. In 2024 APS received 590 intakes alleging abuse, neglect or exploitation in Guadalupe County and completed 442 investigations. APS thanked the court and local partners including local probate courts, the district attorney’s office, the Seguin Police Department, and the Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office for collaborative work on protective services.
The court passed the proclamation by voice vote and presented the proclamation to APS representatives for photo acknowledgement.
Ending: The court encouraged residents and local agencies to work together to prevent and report elder abuse; no budgetary action followed the proclamation.
