On April 19, a passerby along the shoreline at Chinese Reconciliation Park reported a dog stranded on rocks, and Tacoma Police officers responded, the broadcast said.
Officers used a tarp to hoist the frightened dog to safety and the animal was later reunited with its family at a local animal shelter, Tacoma Report said. The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) told the program it is sending a “Compassionate Police Department” award to the Tacoma Police Department in recognition of the officer’s actions.
PETA president Ingrid Newkirk is quoted in the broadcast saying PETA “encourages everyone to follow their example by taking immediate action whenever they see an animal in need.” The broadcast said the department will receive a framed certificate and vegan chocolates from PETA.
The program presented the rescue as a single community‑service incident and did not report any formal action or city resolution related to the award.
