New Lemont residents urge sidewalks near Oak Tree subdivision; staff point to ADA plan and grant studies

During the public‑comment portion of the June 9 meeting, resident Matt Glasso, who said he has lived in Lemont for just over a year, asked the board for sidewalks or a walking/biking connection from the Oak Tree subdivision (near Archer Avenue and McCarthy Road) to nearby shopping at Derby Plaza and other village amenities.
"The lack of proper walking path limits us from doing so," Glasso said, describing the subdivision’s limited access to the rest of the village. He asked for assistance and support to provide a sidewalk or bike path that would connect his neighborhood to village businesses and services.
Mayor and staff members responded that pedestrian and bicycle connectivity is a priority for the village. Jason, a village staff member, told Glasso the village’s ADA transition plan and work by regional planners have examined the townwide network and staff would follow up. Village Administrator George noted recent grant activity—particularly a CMAP grant and state ITEP funding for a separated bike trail on 130 First Street—and said staff would have someone from planning contact Glasso to discuss options and next steps.
The board encouraged the resident to work with Jason and said staff would review right‑of‑way and jurisdictional constraints, including where state or county roads are involved. No formal action was taken at the meeting; staff said they would follow up directly with the resident and consider the request as part of ongoing planning and ADA efforts.
