Amherst accepts treasurer Richard Ramsey's resignation; Ramsey gives final report

The Amherst City Council on June 9 accepted a letter of resignation from Richard Ramsey, the city’s treasurer, effective June 15, 2025, and heard Ramsey deliver his final treasurer’s report.
Ramsey told the council this was his final report and introduced Sheila Wood, his newly hired deputy treasurer. “This is my final report as treasurer,” Ramsey said. He credited staff work for growing “the amount of money that we've the city's had in the bank from about 15,000,000 to over 30,000,000 now.”
Clerk read Ramsey’s resignation letter into the record. Councilmember Neighthort moved to accept the letter; the motion passed and the council recorded that the motion “carries” by voice vote.
Ramsey also thanked staff members by name and said their work kept local tax collection in house. Sheila Wood was identified in the meeting as deputy treasurer and as the staff member who distributed May financial reports.
Council members and the mayor thanked Ramsey for his service and wished him well; several councilmembers echoed appreciation during reports.
The council separately acknowledged receipt of the month-end treasurer report for May after amending a related motion to delay acknowledgement of the auditor’s report until it could be circulated.
No additional appointments to the treasurer’s office were made at the June 9 meeting; the resignation letter sets Ramsey’s effective departure date as June 15, 2025.
