The Vacaville Parks and Recreation Commission on June 4 voted to recommend that the City Council adopt a draft Arts and Cultural Master Plan, a revised Arts Advisory Committee policy and a new Public Art Program policy.
The commission’s recommendation came after a consultant presentation and a discussion about programming, public art types and funding options. Commissioner Michael Kelsey moved the recommendation; Commissioner Fraser seconded. A roll-call vote recorded six yes votes and one absence; the motion passed.
The plan is the city’s first Arts and Cultural Master Plan. Recreation Manager Melody Land and consultant Josh Lapp of Designing Local led the presentation, describing outreach that included surveys, events in every council district, focus groups and an artist-led engagement project titled Weaving Our Future.
