Planning department keeps zoning consultant, plans neighborhood corridor work

Jennifer Carlooni, director of the Department of City Planning, presented a level-funded budget and described ongoing zoning modernization supported by an outside zoning consultant engaged in FY24 and continuing into FY25. She said the department supports permitting boards (planning, zoning, historic), prepares corridor and neighborhood studies, and holds subscriptions for technical mapping and plan-review software.
Carlooni said a recent change combined the planning boardbudget into the department's budget, moving roughly $11,400 of planning-board expenses into the main fund. The department plans to advance neighborhood-targeted planning for corridors such as Purchase Street, Kempton Street and Rockdale and to continue zoning updates begun in earlier years.
Councilors asked about the cost and multi-year use of zoning consultants and the list of proposed neighborhood studies; Carlooni said prior consultant work has spanned multiple years and yields ordinance drafts and project-ready plans that the city can file for public hearings.
