The Arkansas City Commission authorized the city to purchase an ITpipes software package for use with the city's sewer-camera trailer, with an initial cost not to exceed $56,250.
City staff explained the software will receive camera footage in the cloud, run grading and indexing, and return a cataloged report. Staff said the system reduces hours that employees would otherwise spend manually reviewing and grading video and helps prioritize repairs in a sewer system that is more than 100 years old in places.
"You can't fix what you don't know about," a staff member said, describing the value of having a catalog and prioritized list of defects.
Commissioners voted to approve the purchase; staff said the item was budgeted.
