Principals report enrollment, summer programs and OETT technology grant purchases

School principals updated the board on end-of-year enrollment, summer programs and a district technology grant that funded equipment and professional development.

Washington Elementary reported ending the year with 235 students and had 10 students enrolled in a summer reading academy the first day. The Washington principal said leftover Oklahoma Educational Technology Trust (OETT) grant funds will buy additional iPads and playground items funded by Alba State Bank, and that staff will submit a final grant video and summary to the OETT board.

Longfellow reported ending with 50 students and a projected enrollment of 65 for next year; staff also described recent end-of-year activities and the start of the districtwide Summer Reading Academy. Lincoln ended the year with 53 students and projected incoming fourth-graders numbering about 62. The middle school closed the year with 217 students and described promotion events and community partner contributions.

At the high school, Principal Dr. Vicky Niswonger (identified in the transcript as the high school principal) said total enrollment was about 268 students, with 64 seniors graduating. She reported the district used an OETT technology grant to purchase approximately $40,000 in equipment and about $25,000 worth of professional development; the high school showcased student projects made with the new equipment, including work in aeronautics, CAD and a laser cutter used on a museum model. The principal also highlighted athletic and academic recognitions: a state academic champion in girls golf, relay and individual track school records, state-level placements and a student being recognized by a regional media outlet who will present a donation to district programs.

Principals noted a mix of normal summer maintenance and grant-driven spending; they also highlighted staff efforts, student activities and requests that will be completed as summer projects.
