Madison County public works staff told the board on June 2 that girders for Reunion Crossing will be hung the week of June 16, and residents should expect nightly northbound closures on I‑55.
County staff said contractors will close I‑55 northbound each night from approximately 11 p.m. to 6 a.m., operating in 30‑minute on/off shifts to allow beam placement. "Every night, the week of June 16, we'll have I‑55 Northbound closed from 11PM till 6AM in 30 minute shifts," the county's representative said. The closures will be coordinated with the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT), the Mississippi Highway Patrol, and local police. Public notices and dynamic message signs will be used.
Officials said the initial work will affect northbound traffic; after a contractor shift period of about two weeks, southbound beam work will follow. The county emphasized that weather could delay the schedule and that the July 4 week will not be used for the critical closure sequence.
Separately, county staff reported ongoing overnight paving and grade-raising operations at the Bozeman Road/Reunion intersection. Crews have been raising the intersection approximately two or three inches per night to meet final grade. The county said closures have typically been overnight and that exact nightly times would be provided to board members.
Residents who regularly use I‑55 northbound late at night during the indicated week were advised to plan for delays. The county said public safety and traffic control plans are in place and that law enforcement will assist with closures.
