Madison County supervisors on June 2 approved a resolution expressing support for Entergy Mississippi’s proposal to build a natural-gas-fired electric generation plant in the Richland area.
County staff told the board that Entergy, together with project partner Makita and the city of Richland, has proposed a 760-megawatt natural-gas turbine plant and that project proponents have held required hearings. "They've had all the hearings, and they're moving forward with this project," a county staff member said when introducing the resolution.
The resolution asks for the board's formal support for the project; staff noted the proposal includes commitments for local infrastructure—specifically road improvements on West County Line Road—that are referenced in the draft resolution.
Supervisor Banks seconded a motion to approve the resolution, and the board adopted it by voice vote. County staff said similar resolutions are expected from other local governments in the region.
No public testimony in opposition was recorded during the segment; supervisors characterized the proposed plant as a regional infrastructure and economic-development project, adding it supports growth tied to nearby industry investments.
The text of the resolution and any related agreements or proffers from Entergy were not read into the record at the meeting; staff said the county will keep copies of the resolution on file and may coordinate with adjacent jurisdictions on next steps.
