The Person County Board of Commissioners held a public hearing on the fiscal year 2025–26 budget on June 2, during which residents urged the board to consider funding water-recreation amenities such as a splash pad or swimming pool.
Carol Truby of 440 Moss Creek Drive in Roxboro told the board she supports paying higher taxes if the funds result in measurable improvements to residents’ quality of life. “A splash pad is great, and I really do want to see you guys pursue putting that into the budget,” Truby said. She also urged commissioners to consider a swimming pool, citing benefits for children learning to swim and exercise opportunities for older residents with joint problems.
The clerk reported there were no speakers registered in opposition to the budget at the public hearing. The board opened and closed the hearing as part of the meeting’s agenda; no budget adoption or vote occurred at this session. Commissioners reminded the public that the first budget work session is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. Friday, June 6, in Room 215 of the County Office Building.
