Council approves consent items including Habitat funding, Terminal B vendors and Pre-K budget; nonprofits urge continued support

San Antonio — The City Council approved the consent agenda May 29, clearing multiple routine and policy items while pulling items 16 and 19 for separate consideration.
On the consent docket, Habitat for Humanity of San Antonio asked the council to approve allocation of $1,900,000 in HOME and CDBG funds to purchase roughly 4.6 acres near Monterey Park in Council District 5 and to build public infrastructure that would support 28 single-family affordable homes. Michael Taylor of Habitat for Humanity said the homes will be sold at no profit with 0% interest mortgage financing, producing monthly payments “approximately $900 a month,” including taxes and insurance, and that the funding would leverage other private and community contributions.
Speakers also highlighted item 14, a concession agreement at the San Antonio International Airport Terminal B that will include locally based operators. Council members and airport staff praised inclusion of local vendors such as Becker’s tasting room, Bakery Lorraine and others as part of the Terminal B refresh, noting the city’s aim to reflect San Antonio businesses in airport concessions.
Frank remarks in support of workforce and early-education programs also featured on the consent list. Francisco Martinez of Project QUEST thanked the council for trusting the nonprofit to implement components of the Ready to Work initiative and urged continued oversight and support. Council members briefly highlighted approval of the fiscal year budget for Pre-K for SA, praising the program’s role in early childhood education.
The consent agenda passed; items 16 (sign variance) and 19 (Creekside at Lookout resolution) had been removed for separate votes and discussion earlier in the meeting.
