The United Nations reported that recent attacks in Ukraine have killed more than 20 civilians and injured over 100, including children, and that civilian infrastructure — homes, health care and education facilities, and power and gas lines — sustained damage.
At a spokesperson briefing, the UN’s coordination office said regions including Donetsk, Kharkiv, Kherson, Sumy and Zaporizhzhia were among the hardest hit. The briefing said aid workers are providing emergency repairs and psychological assistance and continuing evacuations from frontline communities.
The spokesperson noted that an interagency convoy on May 30 delivered aid to frontline communities in the Kherson region, supplying solar lamps, charging stations and kitchen sets and reaching at least 700 people, including people with disabilities. The briefing added that this year 11 convoys had reached 16,000 people in Kherson delivering assistance to people remaining in frontline areas.
UN officials welcomed recent diplomatic talks that may lead to prisoner exchanges but emphasized their priority is an immediate and unconditional ceasefire as the first step toward a negotiated peace consistent with the UN Charter and international law.
