Council approves one door-to-door solar vendor, records two tie votes on similar applications

The council considered multiple hawkers-and-peddlers applications for door-to-door solar sales. One application for Trinity Solar LLC passed; two subsequent applications resulted in 3–3 ties and therefore failed to pass.
The Burrillville Town Council considered three applications for hawkers-and-peddlers (door-to-door sales) licenses for solar vendors on May 28.
The council voted to approve the application from Sean Farmer, doing business as Trinity Solar LLC, after administration checklists and police registration procedures were discussed. That approval was recorded in the meeting as passing by a 4–3 vote.
Two additional applications for similar licenses produced tie votes. The transcript shows one application resulted in a 3–3 split and failed to carry; a third application produced a 3–3 split and likewise did not pass. Council members noted general resident discomfort with door-to-door solicitations but also discussed that companies register with police and can be removed if complaints arise.
Council members said the police track registered hawkers’ license and vehicle information and that complaints would be recorded and pursued. The council did not adopt additional restrictions at the meeting. The clerk noted that hawkers-and-peddlers license applications are routed to the police chief for approval and record checks.
