Grand Island ag advisory board narrows animal-permit draft, adopts 100-foot house setback and clarity on offspring

The Grand Island Agriculture Advisory Board on Monday agreed to revise a draft of its agricultural-animal permit and accompanying density chart after feedback from the town board, adopting a 100-foot setback from a neighboring residence and asking staff to add worked examples showing how mixed animal holdings would translate into minimum acreage requirements.

The revisions aim to respond to requests made at a recent town-board workshop and to reduce future questions about combinations of animals on a single property, board members said. The board also kept a previously proposed carve-out that treats chickens separately from larger livestock and clarified that offspring would not be counted toward density limits until they reach yearling status.

Board members said the changes are intended to make enforcement and permitting clearer for residents and for town staff.
