Pelham Board approves tenure for 15 educators

The Pelham Union Free School District Board of Education on May 28 approved tenure recommendations for 15 educators after administrators presented summaries of each candidate’s work and impact.
District and school leaders introduced the candidates and highlighted classroom practice, leadership and contributions to extracurricular programs before the board took formal action. Presenters included the district’s executive director for human resources (Dr. Fitzgerald), building principals and department leaders who described each candidate’s instructional approach, special programs involvement and community contributions.
The group of tenure candidates spanned classroom teachers, teaching assistants, specialists and district-level staff. Among those recommended and named in presentations were: Kathy Braceno Paul (Spanish teacher, Pelham Memorial High School and Pelham Middle School), Donna Dolce (teaching assistant, Therapeutic Support Program, Pelham Memorial High School), Brandon Baraco (life science teacher), Ken Olympio (algebra and data science teacher), Christopher Motta (sixth-grade social studies teacher), Christina Sacco (middle school special education teacher), and a cohort of elementary educators and specialists including Ms. Cristerna (kindergarten), Ms. Galena (library/reading support), Ms. Sokol, Ms. Amazquita (interventionist), Ms. Weiss (resource room teacher and MTSS coordinator), Anna Marie Murray (Colonial School psychologist), Alyssa Zocke (occupational therapist), Carrie Ann Weaver (school psychologist), and Tracy Holtz (Assistant Superintendent for Pupil Personnel Services). Presenters cited curriculum leadership, special education and MTSS work, creation of student programs, and districtwide initiatives such as playground communication boards and staff training.
After the presentations the board president asked for a motion to approve the tenure recommendations. A motion was moved and seconded; the board approved the motion by voice vote. The meeting transcript records the board member calling for “All in favor? Aye,” and the chair declaring, “The motion passes.”
The formal approval makes the recommendations official; presenters had reminded the audience that the recognition portion of the evening was celebratory but that “it's not official until we actually take action.”
