Warren School reports strong progress on DESE S3 work; district to revamp report card

Warren School leaders reported to the Ashland School Committee on May 28 that the school exceeded expectations this year under a DESE-sponsored S3 cohort and was selected as one of three communities to present its work to the state group.
Pete, the Warren presenter, and other staff credited the school’s data-team process for producing “real actionable work” and intervention strategies. He told the committee Warren had set a goal of 80 percent of students completing a named “journey” under the grant; as of the report the school had surpassed 91 percent overall. He provided grade-level completion rates: kindergarten 100 percent, grade 1 88 percent and grade 2 83 percent.
Warren staff also described community-service activities — second graders have taken responsibility for playground cleanup and younger grades assist other classrooms — and cited increased engagement with Special Olympics through a school liaison role. The presenter said staff surveyed families this year about volunteer opportunities and plan to work to restore volunteer participation to pre-pandemic levels.
A district official described a planned overhaul of Warren’s report card, saying the goal is to make report cards more parent‑friendly by reporting progress toward grade‑level skills and social‑emotional growth rather than relying primarily on end‑of‑year expectations. The presenter said the revised report card would be brought to the school committee for approval and, if approved, implemented in the 2026–27 school year.
Committee members praised the Warren team’s use of data and said the school’s approach will inform districtwide MTSS and data-team practices. Assistant Principal Erica Linares and other Warren staff were named by the presenter as part of the site council and data-team leadership recognized for the work.
