The Petoskey City Downtown Management Board reviewed marketing and promotions plans and upcoming events at its April 15 meeting.
The board reported three bridal sponsors for the trolley: Perry, Killins and Bayview; ride sponsors have not been secured, and the board said that shortfall will reduce expected trolley revenue. Key upcoming dates noted in staff reports: Wake Up Downtown on May 20 at the Perry, a Thirsty Thursday event at Beards on May 8, hospitality training run by the Chamber on June 17, and a spring restaurant week in May (dates not specified by staff). Sounds of Summer, a July Friday-evening series, will be announced May 7.
Staff said ad sales for the annual shopping map are lower than past years and that committee members are continuing outreach to advertisers. The board also reviewed post-event questionnaire results from last year’s Sidewalk Sales and discussed ideas to enliven Mitchell Street, including asking the electric department to participate in a public demonstration.
The board noted two submitted 2-to-1 match maintenance grant applications; staff said awards will be announced in June and that contracts would not take effect until September.
Later in the meeting, the board voted to appoint Melissa Lover (nominee from Malted Bridal) to the Marketing and Promotions Committee. Members said she attended an earlier meeting, asked substantive questions and brings marketing experience. The motion carried.
