District staff presented an analysis of the certified 2024 cohort and told the board the district’s overall on-time graduation rate was 86% for the class of 2024.
Administrators explained the cohort methodology: the class of 2024 cohort included students who first entered ninth grade in 2020 or 2021 or later and who had at least one reporting snapshot in New Mexico public schools. Of 933 students who ever attended the class cohort, staff verified 23 transfers out of state, private school or homeschool, leaving 810 students in the official cohort used for the district’s rate calculation.
Staff noted that 535 students were present for all 16 reporting snapshots; of those, 518 (97%) graduated on time. Presenters said the district performed well in statewide comparisons for large high schools and that trends over the last 12 years show steady improvement.
Why it matters: graduation rates are a key accountability and public‑information metric and affect district reporting and public perception. Administrators said the district will continue interventions and supports to improve outcomes.
Board members thanked district staff and the high school for work leading to a high number of graduates; no formal action was taken on this informational item.
