District outlines construction schedule: new middle school, Heizer replacement, CTEC fields and summer campus projects

District architects and construction managers updated the board on multiple capital projects, including the new Hobbs middle school, the Heizer school replacement, CTEC practice fields, and summer maintenance across campuses.

Construction staff said preconstruction meetings are under way and that Seymour amendments and purchase orders with contractors have been completed or are pending. The district expects to issue a notice to proceed for the new middle school around June 9 and for the Heizer replacement mid‑June, with estimated construction durations of about two years for the new middle school and roughly two-and-a-half years for the Heizer project because additional site work follows demolition.

Project notes included an early work package to extend Calle Grande Road for the new middle school and sequencing of demolition, field construction and school build at the Heizer site. The CTEC practice fields and HVAC/electrical upgrades at several campuses were described as ongoing, and maintenance work will include parking repairs and striping at 10 elementary campuses.

Why it matters: the projects are major capital efforts funded through a combination of local voter authorization, state matches (PSFA/PSCOC) and contractor schedules. District staff said timing of title transfers, state approvals and contractor mobilization will affect start dates.

Administrators asked the board to expect periodic updates and noted the district’s goal of keeping projects on schedule while coordinating state documentation and contractor mobilization.
