The Albany County Social Services Committee on Thursday approved an amendment to resolution 727 (2024) to add A1 Discount Appliances, at 137 Central Avenue, to the county's list of approved providers for home establishment furnishings for clients exiting homelessness.
Commissioner Sackowitz presented the amendment and said adding the vendor does not change the program allocation; the county contracts with all willing and able providers rather than issuing a competitive bid for the list.
A committee member asked about the stipend schedule given to clients for household purchases. A staff member said stipends vary by item and read examples from the schedule; she also said the county pays the vendor directly to provide furniture and essential household items to clients moving into new housing.
Committee members moved and seconded the item; it passed by voice vote. No roll-call tally was recorded in the meeting transcript.
The amendment expands vendor options for households that need furniture and essential items after moving; the county did not discuss a change to the program's allocation or to eligibility rules during the meeting.
