Barbrey described the program as recognizing everyday workers — retail staff, road crews, service workers — with thank-you cards, small gifts and social-media profiles.
Barbrey said she has designed printed thank-you cards that council members were given at the meeting and is using QR codes that link to a Google form for residents to nominate people they consider everyday heroes. She said nominated stories will be posted on her social media on Wednesdays and Sundays. Barbrey also discussed a local project to install and stock “blessing boxes” (small community pantries) in front of the Bonds Career Center at Grace Realty/Quality Foods; one box is already in place and a second will be added this fall.
The mayor and council thanked Barbrey for the presentation and for bringing attention to neighborhood-level service and volunteerism. No council action was required or taken on the initiative at the meeting.
