County welcomes two AgriLife Extension hires to provide SNAP nutrition and family‑health programming

Johnson County commissioners on May 27 were introduced to two new AgriLife Extension staff members who will deliver nutrition and family-health education across the county.
Jay Kingston, county AgriLife Extension director, introduced Amanda Turner as the county’s Better Living for Texans extension agent. Kingston said the position is funded at the state and federal level to provide nutrition education to families eligible for SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program), focusing on meal planning and household nutrition. Kingston said the county had funded Turner’s position and provided office space in the county office for the program.
Kingston also introduced Leanne Pollock, who will begin in June as the county family and community health extension agent. Kingston said Pollock holds a master’s degree from Texas A&M and is working on a PhD; he described Pollock as having extensive experience in educational programming for both youth (4‑H) and adults and praised her statewide contest-judging experience and local ties.
Commissioners welcomed the new hires and said they look forward to seeing extension programming expand in the county. No formal action was required for the introductions.
