Johnson County moves to buy 110 North Main in Cleburne for annex renovation; treasurer authorized to pay earnest money and closing costs

Following executive session on May 27, the Johnson County Commissioners Court took a series of unanimous votes to proceed with purchase of the property at 110 North Main Street, Cleburne, as part of an annex renovation plan.

The court authorized the county judge to sign a commercial contract for purchase of the property from Colonial Companies and authorized the judge to sign any necessary documents prior to or at closing. The court also authorized the county treasurer to pay funds necessary for a property survey and to pay the earnest-money deposit of $8,500 per the commercial contract; commissioners directed that those funds come from the annex renovation fund.

In a subsequent motion the court authorized payment of closing funds from the annex renovation fund when due. The court also approved retaining architect Robert Durham to perform a probable-cost assessment and authorized an initial payment of $2,500 for that assessment; the court approved contingencies of up to $10,000 for additional professional assessments (engineering, structural, civil, environmental) if needed, to also be paid from the annex renovation fund.

All motions related to the purchase and pre‑closing assessments passed unanimously (County Judge Rick Huebsen; Commissioners Willie, White, Howell and Wooley; Commissioner Bailey absent). Closing and renovation tasks will proceed per the contract timeline.
