Board adopts Jackson Valley Fire Protection District impact fees; new rates for new construction approved

The Amador County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to adopt a fire impact fee nexus study and impose updated Jackson Valley Fire Protection District impact fees for new construction.
Randy Megapson, fire chief for Jackson Valley Fire, told the board the district’s fees had not been adjusted since 1995 and that an experienced consultant prepared the nexus study to align fees with service needs and the county general plan. Under the adopted schedule, the impact fee for single‑family housing is approximately $0.96 per square foot; multi‑family residential will be assessed about $1.26 per square foot; agricultural development about $0.58 per square foot; and warehousing about $0.63 per square foot. County staff said the new fee schedule would replace an older $500 flat charge for new homes.
Supervisors asked questions about relative rates across land uses and noted the fee applies only to new construction; other existing assessment charges remain separately administered. The board voted 5-0 to adopt the resolution imposing the updated fees and finding the study legally defensible.
The district and county will apply the adopted fee schedule to applicable building permits and new development in the Jackson Valley Fire service area, county staff said.
