The interlocal agreement provides reimbursement of eligible Capital Metro expenses up to $10 million over a five-year period (2025–2030) to support implementation of measures including: regional transit service improvements, mobility infrastructure (temporary and durable investments at mobility hubs, bicycle infrastructure, parking counters) and transit options/outreach (including a transportation wallet initiative).
Why it matters
Staff said the funds will help mitigate commute disruptions caused by regional construction activities related to EPA-funded projects and support initiatives that reduce greenhouse gas emissions from transportation. City council approved the interlocal on April 24; Capital Metro’s board provided matching authorization at the May 19 meeting.
Board action
The board authorized the president and CEO or designee to finalize and execute the interlocal agreement with the City of Austin for reimbursement up to $10,000,000 for a five-year term. The motion passed unanimously.
Clarifying details
- The interlocal reimburses eligible Capital Metro expenses incurred in support of CPRG implementation from 2025 through 2030.
- Staff said planning work will continue through 2025 with implementation anticipated to start in 2026; the agency will prioritize investments that are temporary or durable beyond 2030.
