Assemblymember Erica Mosca presented Assembly Bill 472 to protect J‑1 visa holder teachers who come to Nevada to fill hard-to-staff positions. Mosca said the bill "ensures that our J‑1 visa holder teachers have protections when they come to Nevada to teach" and noted the largest sending country has been the Philippines.
To remove a fiscal note, the sponsor offered an amendment deleting section 3, which had created a match-grant program through the Nevada Department of Education. Steve Camber, interim state superintendent, told the committee that deletion of the match-grant program "does remove the department's fiscal note." Support came from the Clark County School District, CCEA and other education organizations. There were no callers in opposition or neutral, and the hearing closed with no recorded committee vote.
