NGPC posts preliminary CWD sampling results; one area shows an unexpected spike

Nebraska Game and Parks Commission staff gave preliminary results from the agency’s chronic wasting disease (CWD) sampling during the meeting and said the data are posted online for certificate-numbered samples.
Reported results: NGPC staff reported sample positivity rates in several surveillance areas: Elkhorn 1.7%, Missouri about 0.5%, Blue Northwest 3.4%, Blue Southeast 1.1%, Wahoo 2%, and Loop East 15.3%. Staff described Loop East’s rate as an anomaly that warranted further evaluation.
Why it matters: CWD prevalence informs surveillance priorities, public outreach and harvest-sampling strategies. Positive testers were contacted directly, and NGPC said the raw results are posted online where landowners or hunters can find test results by sample seal number.
What’s next: Staff said they will examine the unusual Loop East result to determine if sampling or other factors explain the higher rate and will continue to post raw test results on the agency CWD webpage.
