Anna boards cancel June 5 meeting; set June 12 training and June 19 budget meeting

The Anna Community Development Corporation and Anna Economic Development Corporation on May 22 voted to cancel their June 5 meeting and to instead hold meetings and training on June 12 and June 19, both starting at 6 p.m.

The schedule change was proposed by staff to allow additional time for attorneys to finalize developer agreements the city is negotiating. Staff also said the June 12 session will include training by the president of the Texas Economic Development Corporation and that June 19 will accommodate budget review and possible action for both corporations.

A motion to cancel the June 5 meeting and schedule the two June dates carried unanimously with no opposition announced. Staff was instructed to post updated meeting notices and agendas.

In a staff report at the same meeting, Bernie Parker said he, the board president, "Mister Bruce," Natasha and Mayor P. Kane attended the ICSC retail and real-estate convention in Las Vegas. Parker said team meetings with retailers and developers showed interest in Anna's market and highlighted recently released census data. "Based on population of over 20,000, we're the fifth fastest growing city in the nation," Parker said, and added that the city is actively pursuing retail recruitment to expand the sales-tax base.

Board members asked clarifying questions about start times and the meeting format for June 12; staff said June 12 will be posted as a regular or special meeting and then go into the training session, and the boards may simply stay later if business requires it. Staff thanked the board for flexibility in scheduling.
