Resident tells commissioners of chronic trespass, armed confrontations on rural property

During the public-comment portion of the meeting, resident Walt Gerard described a prolonged series of trespasses, theft and threatening behavior at his family property near the wagon wheel area. Gerard said the incidents have persisted for about two years, that people he described as "druggies" had occupied a property after a relative’s death, and that he and family members have reported trespass and criminal activity to the sheriff’s office.
Gerard said he has installed cameras and that on one occasion a person approached his house with a loaded firearm at about 9:30 a.m. "I sleep in my living room on the couch with a loaded handgun at night because we have people coming on the property," he said. He asked for the county or sheriff’s office to take stronger action; staff recorded his name and address for the public record.
Sheriff Brian Snyder later gave a departmental report in which he said the office is making progress on staffing and that patrol and training activities are ongoing; he did not provide case-specific follow-up in the meeting. The board did not take action during the meeting based on the public comment; commissioners thanked Gerard for the report and noted the comment was received during the public-comment period.
