The Morrow County Board of Commissioners scheduled a public hearing for 9 a.m. on June 11 in the commissioners’ chambers to consider an annexation application filed by the Columbia Development Authority seeking inclusion in the Boardman Fire Rescue District.
The county attorney and staff cited Oregon Revised Statutes governing annexation by special districts (ORS 198.857) and explained that receipt of a conforming application triggers a statutory timetable to hold a public hearing no sooner than 20 days and no later than 50 days after receipt. Staff recommended setting the hearing and said any court action filed in the interim could affect the proceeding.
Commissioners discussed logistics and preferred handling the hearing in the morning in the commissioners’ meeting room; they also agreed to allow remote participation. One staffer noted the county may receive additional, related annexation applications from the CDA for other parcels in the near future.
A motion to hold the public hearing on June 11 at 9 a.m. passed; staff will publish statutory notices and manage the hearing process, subject to any judicial injunctions that might arise before the hearing date.
