County honors 2025 seniors of the year and student map contest winners

El Dorado County recognized volunteers and student mapmakers during the Board of Supervisors’ May 20 meeting.
At the 9 a.m. time allocation the county, in conjunction with the Commission on Aging, presented certificates to nominees for the 2025 County Senior of the Year. The board announced Ken and Chris Prisbeck as the 2025 Senior of the Year for their long volunteer service in Georgetown, including restoration projects and meal service work, and invited nominees and families to a reception following the presentation.
Later, the board hosted the 30th annual student map drawing contest sponsored by SAGE (Surveyors, Architects, Geologists and Engineers). Brian Frazier, the county surveyor, and local SAGE representatives presented awards across grade levels (kindergarten through 12th grade) and recognized schools and students with first, second and third place honors. The contest drew hundreds of entries from kindergarten through 12th grade; SAGE representatives said the organization has awarded more than $70,000 in prizes over three decades to encourage mapping and geospatial skills among youth.
Supervisors and presenters praised students’ work and acknowledged the community and volunteers who support both the senior awards and the student mapping event.
