Town staff told Jackson Town Council May 19 that a recent state law (House Bill 147) prompted a recommendation to dissolve the town's Equity Task Force. Susan Scarlotta, director of external affairs, presented the staff recommendation and linked the action to the recently passed legislation.
Tyler Sinclair introduced Scarlotta for the item; Scarlotta summarized that the Equity Task Force was created to advise on equity, inclusion and diversity for local government. Staff concluded HB 147 affects the task force's status and recommended dissolving it to comply with state statute. The requested action was for council to direct staff to bring back a resolution dissolving the task force.
No public comment was offered. Councilmember Deamer moved, Councilmember Wieden seconded, and the motion to direct staff to draft and present a resolution dissolving the Equity Task Force passed unanimously.
