Select Board approves $700,000 MAPC roadway contract and FY26 paving list; state to fund Main Street reconstruction

The Millis Select Board on May 19 approved a package of roadway and maintenance contracts procured through the Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC), including a $700,000 roadway management agreement with J.H. Lynch & Sons and smaller contracts for crack sealing, pavement markings, tree services and catch‑basin cleaning.
Public Works Director Jim McKay reviewed the FY26 paving list and the board approved the town’s proposed schedule of streets. McKay said the town participates in MAPC’s procurement consortium to avoid separate bid solicitations and to gain volume pricing.
McKay told the board the state will fund a major reconstruction of Main Street beginning May 27. The town estimates the state’s contract for the Main Street work at roughly $1,870,000; the state will pay for police details and structure work tied to that project, McKay said. Town paving work approved for FY26 includes Orchard Street (Middlesex Street to Stone Arch Bridge), Myrtle Street (Himmelfarb to Pleasant, including the rotary), Park Road (two sections near the school project), Milliston Road and segments of Paula Drive and Clock Road, among others.
The motion the board approved bundled several MAPC‑sourced contracts: crack sealing (not to exceed $30,000), pavement markings (not to exceed $30,000), tree services (not to exceed $25,000) and catch basin cleaning (not to exceed $48,160), plus the authorized $700,000 roadway management contract through 12/31/2025.
Board members noted the maintenance value of crack sealing and agreed to proceed with the list. The motions were moved, seconded and passed unanimously.
