The Westminster Common Council chose Tony Kovacic as council president and Greg Becker as council president pro tem during a special organizational meeting at Emerald Hill following the certification of election results.
Council member Hoff nominated Kovacic for council president; the nomination was seconded by Councilmember Gilbert. The council then conducted a voice vote. Council President (presiding) announced the ayes and declared Kovacic elected. After the vote, Council President-elect Tony Kovacic addressed the chamber, saying he appreciated the council’s confidence and that he would do his best to fill the role.
Kovacic said, "I really appreciate the confidence of everybody here. I've got big shoes to fill ... I do appreciate everyone's confidence," remarks he made immediately after the vote.
As his first official act, Kovacic called for nominations for council president pro tem. A council member nominated Greg Becker; that nomination was seconded and approved by voice vote. Council members noted for the record that they were voting aye.
The council chair announced that committee assignments and board nominations will be re-seated at the next organizational meeting on June 9; until then, current committee assignments remain in effect.
Ending: The council concluded the organizational portion of the meeting after electing leaders and confirming the temporary schedule for committee reseating. The next regular council meeting will be Monday, June 6.
